CESD Seminar on Economic Integration

Center for Economic and Social Development (CESD), Azerbaijan is pleased to invite all interested scholars to attend next CESD Seminar on Economic Liberalization and WTO Accession at 6.30 p.m. on May 2nd, 2012 in the CESD office (Dilara Aliyeva 115, Baku). Speaker of next seminar is Sherman Elliott Katz, Senior Advisor of Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress, USA.

Sherman Katz  holds a BA from Amherst College (cum laude, 1965), a J.D. from the Columbia University School of Law (1969), a Master’s of International Affairs from Columbia University School of International Affairs (1969) and a Diploma in European Community Law from Oxford University (1992).

Mr. Katz has served as a trade policy issues advisor to the Presidential campaigns of Bill Clinton, Walter Mondale, Jimmy Carter, Edmund Muskie and George McGovern.

Mr. Katz held the William Scholl Chair in International Business at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (2000-2006), and was a Senior Associate for Trade, Equity and Development at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (2006-2007) and Director for Outreach at the Peterson Institute for International Economics (2007-2008). There he convened and conducted discussions of U.S. trade policy including: annual Former USTR Seminars (2001-2008) on trade policy issues with U.S. Trade Representatives Barshefsky, Brock, Eberle, Hills, Kantor, Portman and Yeutter; seminars on major trade policy problems with speakers from the U.S. Congress, U.S. Trade Representative, International Trade Commission, U.S. Departments of Commerce, Treasury, State and Agriculture; and informal and other key issues with representatives of labor, business and non-governmental organizations to explore points of convergence.

His articles on international trade policy have been published in Wall Street Journal Europe,Wall Street Journal AsiaThe Washington PostInternational Herald TribuneJournal of CommerceNational Law JournalThe International LawyerThe American Interest, and The International Law Quarterly, among others.
