Visa regime to be simplified between Azerbaijan and Europe

Negotiations will begin in autumn this year on the simplification of the visa regime between Azerbaijan and the European Union. Vugar Bayramov, national coordinator of the EU Eastern Partnership Program in Azerbaijan, discussed the development with media while on a business trip in Brussels. Dr. Bayramov held meetings with representatives of the European Commission as well as with Polish officials who lead the European Union, and he explained that documents are already being prepared on visa liberalization in the European Commission. In case of intensive negotiations, a simplified visa or even visa-free short-term travel to the European Union will be possible for Azerbaijani citizens at the beginning of next year.

Vugar Bayramov, who is also chairman of the Center for Economic and Social Development (CESD), informed that CESD had implemented a project on visa liberalization, and a number of recommendations in this field had been adopted by the government, and he also added that after a short time foreigners travelling to our country will be able to get a simplified visa. Works are being carried out on the realization of on-line visa applications, as well as through travel agencies.

Mr. Bayramov also said that visa liberalization between the European Union and Azerbaijan will create an opportunity to extend relations with the continent and also to attract more investments to the non-oil sector.
