CESD remains the best think tank in the Southern Caucasus and Central Asia

CESD – Center for Economic and Social Development – is the number one think tank in the Southern Caucasus and Central Asia, according to the University of Pennsylvania’s Global Go To Think Tank Index Report 2017. The report was submitted in Washington, DC and New York City, USA, on January 30th, 2018.

CESD also has the privilege of ranking fourth in the ‘top think tanks with annual budget less than $5 million USD’ category and one of the top 10 ‘best managed think tanks in the world’, as well as ‘best institutional collaboration involving two and more think tanks’. CESD is also among the top 15 ‘independent think tanks in the world’ and one of top 15 ‘global energy and resource policy think tanks’. In general, CESD was ranked as one of the top global think tanks in 23 categories.

Dr. Vugar Bayramov, Chairman of CESD, underlined that “It is honor both for me and for the CESD staff to be ranked top think tank in the region and to be among the top global think tanks. This is a result of CESD’s team work and having internationally recognized experts and researchers. CESD, as an independent global think tank, works to positively influence decision-making processes not only in Azerbaijan but also in other regional countries. We are keen on our slogan: “better research, better policy, better reform”.

The report began in 2011 as the first comprehensive ranking of the world’s top think tanks, based on a worldwide survey of close to 1500 scholars, policy makers, journalists and regional- and subject-area experts. The think tank index has been described as the insider’s guide to the global marketplace of ideas. All 6,480 think tanks in the world were contacted and encouraged to participate in this year’s nomination process. This year’s group of peers and experts were asked to nominate and then rank regional or global centers of excellence that they felt should be recognized for producing rigorous and relevant research, publications and programs in one or more substantive areas of research.
