The CESD Paper was named the second best paper for Think Tank Publication of the Year Award

Perspectives of Women in Rural Areas, a report by the Center for Research and Policy Making in Macedonia, was named the winner of the 2013 PASOS Think-Tank Publication of the Year Award.

The second place prize in this category went to the Center for Economic and Social Development in Baku for Access to the Customs Union: Shaping the Strategy for Azerbaijan. This ground-breaking paper is the first to assess the economic implications of Azerbaijan’s potential accession to the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia.

The award was announced at “Wider and Closer,” an international think-tanks’ and policymakers’ conference held by the Policy Association for an Open Society (PASOS) October 17 in Brussels.

“This innovative and in-depth publication is having an impact: The government of Macedonia is using the study as it plans a new strategy for rural development, and it has inspired the UN and the World Bank to fund related projects in the country,” said Jeff Lovitt, executive director of PASOS.
The awards recognize outstanding think-tanks in young and aspiring democracies in Europe and Central Asia, and publicize the importance of what they do.
The winners were selected by a three-member jury of leading experts from the international think-tank world and experienced policymakers with a knowledge of the policy challenges facing young and aspiring democracies in Europe and Central Asia.
The jurors were:

Bohdan Krawchenko, Director General, University of Central Asia
Kalman Mizsei, Chair, Making the Most of EU Funds for Roma (MTM), Open Society Foundations
Gabriela Svárovská (Dlouhá), Member of the Board, European Partnership for Democracy, former Director of Human Rights and Transition Policy Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Czech Republic
