CESD was ranked as the top think tank in Central Asia and Southern Caucasus

The University of Pennsylvania’s (UPenn) Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program announced rankings of the leading public policy research organizations in the world in their annual Global “Go-To Think Tanks” report on January 22, 2015. The report was submitted at United Nations’ head quarter in New-York City, USA today.

The report’s publication is the culmination of an eight-month process involving the support of think tanks and experts from every region of the world. Despite the scope of the project, the rankings are conducted without the benefit of a full time staff or budget, instead made possible with the assistance of a group of research interns from the University of Pennsylvania and other colleges in the Philadelphia area.
According to the University of Pennsylvania rankings – a result of surveys 6,545 think tanks from 182 countries as well as from 1500 scholars and peer review evaluation – the Center for Economic and Social Development (CESD) is the top think tank in Central Asia where Caucasus is also included.

CESD is also ranked in some other categories in the report such as one of top think tanks in the world (both with US and non-USA), Best Institutional Collaboration Involving Two or More Think Tanks (5th place), Best Managed Think Tanks (7th place), Top Think Tanks with Annual Operating Budgets of Less Than $5 Million USD (6th place), Top International Development Think Tanks and etc.

CESD’s “Accession to the Customs Union: Shaping the strategy for Azerbaijan” policy paper was included in the best 25 Policy Study/Report Produced by a Think Tank in 2013-2014 in the world. Link to the paper: http://cesd.az/new/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/CESD-Customs-Union-Accession-Paper.pdf

The report is the first comprehensive ranking of the world’s top think tanks, based on a worldwide survey of close to 1500 scholars, policy makers, journalists and regional and subject area experts. The think tank index has been described as the insider’s guide to the global marketplace of ideas. All 6,480 think tanks in the world were contacted and encouraged to participate in this year’s nomination process. This group of peers and experts were asked to nominate and then rank regional or global centers of excellence hat they felt should be recognized for producing rigorous and relevant research, publications and programs in one or more substantive areas of research.
